Who are you and why should I take you seriously?
First of all, you definitely should not take everything I say seriously.
I’m simply someone who is trying to squeeze as much adventure, excitement, happiness, and love out of life as possible.
I think one of the best ways to do that is through meaningful work, and that’s a lot of what this site focuses on.
So what do you do?
I’m an entrepreneur of sorts, although I hesitate to use that word as it gets thrown around pretty casually in the world we live in today.
Put another way, I build businesses, projects, and concepts that allow me to live life on my terms. I build these things alongside people who inspire me and who I love to be around.
The idea of working at a giant corporation all my life gives me nightmares.
What have you done?
The first company I ever launched was a card game company that had a concept exactly like Cards Against Humanity. The game I created had one twist: all of the content for the cards was customized for specific colleges and universities.
The first version of “College Cards” was launched at the University of Wisconsin, my alma mater, and it became so successful that the slithering lawyers who represented the University eventually hunted me down for trademark infringement and demanded that I shut down the game. See here.
It was a tough blow for a young, bright-eyed entrepreneur; however, I am thankful for the experience. It was because of College Cards that I learned about the pure magic of combining the internet with witty marketing tactics in order to make money online.
I wrote all about how I pulled off College Cards in this blog post here.
After College Cards was dealt its final blow, I worked on a number of other small scale projects with mild success until I eventually came across cryptocurrency in 2017.
The whole concept was absolutely wild to me, and I bought into the hype along with everyone else during the time.
It was then in 2017 that everyone was trying to “get rich quick” by putting money into bitcoin. However, I was looking at things differently.
My entrepreneurial mind was asking questions that most people were overlooking. Simply, I was asking the question, how can I provide something of value to this exploding market? How can I sell picks and shovels to all of these gold miners?
It was this question that led me to meet my two co-founders and launch a software-as-a-service platform built to automate cryptocurrency tax reporting.
Like “TurboTax for crypto investors”, my partners and I said at the time.
CryptoTrader.Tax is what I have spent the last three years of my life building.
Today, CryptoTrader.Tax is used by more than 30,000 individuals all over the world to help them automate their cryptocurrency tax reporting, it has partnered up with major software companies including Inuit TurboTax to bring crypto tax reporting capabilities to the mainstream, and it has become a foundational piece of infrastructure within the crypto industry.
Entrepreneurship has changed my life for the better. It has allowed me to leave the world of the “9 to 5” by a relatively young age and live life on my terms.
What are you good at?
I’m good at marketing and sales, AKA getting people in the door. That’s my strong suit, and that’s what a lot of the content on this site focuses on.
